2023 Class of Hackman Research Residents Announced

Nine researchers from across the country have received Larry J. Hackman Research Residency awards to use historical records at the State Archives. Two projects anticipate the 200th anniversary of the completion of the Erie Canal and the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Others include the study of the transfer of wealth and power resulting from the confiscation and sale of Loyalists’ property, efforts to revise statutory mandates in order to protect children from harmful content in the movies utilizing Motion Picture Division records, and unexpected consequences of the so-called “Rockefeller drug laws,” amendments to the Penal Law enacted to combat the “crack” cocaine crisis.
